Barry Model United Nations re-emerges with success at tri-meet

Barry’s Model United Nations association recently took part in its first competition in more than three years. Barry’s team was joined by Model UN representatives from Florida Memorial University and Bethune Cookman College at an event in Daytona Beach on February 27 and 28.

Barry’s Model UN team consisted of students Johanna Rodriguez, Bradley Jean Joseph, Kevin Dalia, John Powell, Jessy Bernard, Jessica Cousett, and Selena Pierre Jacques. The organization’s sponsor is Sean Foreman, PhD, assistant professor of political science, and the team is coached by Steffano Montano, theology service–learning coordinator.

The team nearly swept the delegation awards categories, taking three of four possible honors. Barry students won Best Delegate in Security Council (John Powell), Best Delegation in Security Council, and Best Delegation in General Assembly.

Model UN is a conference similar to the United Nations in which students participate as delegates to various UN Committees. Participants research and formulate political positions based on the actual policies of the countries they represent.
