MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In their first home game of the 2014 season, Barry men’s soccer dominated Johnson & Wales in a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats, Wednesday.
In front of a raucous home crowd, head coach Steve McCrath’s men scored three goals in the first half to put them well ahead at halftime.
The score fest started with a goal by junior Rory Kay into the top left corner in the 24rd minute. Sophomore Michael Fernandez provided the assist with a key pass up the sideline.
The Bucs added to their lead in the 33rd minute, when sophomore Ryan King served in a cross to the far post that Kay headed back across the box to freshmen Frank Lustig for a header into the net.
Just four minutes later, the Bucs and Lustig in particular, added to their tally on a penalty kick goal after a handball foul was called on the Wildcats (3-2) in the box.
But easily the play of the game came in the second half when, in the 62nd minute, forward Jose Giron struck a powerful side-volley off a cross by fellow forward Esteban Ochoa. The volley ripped through the air into the lower right corner of the goal. This spectacular goal is certainly the play of the young season so far for the Bucs.
The Bucs return to the field on Saturday as they travel to Dayton Beach to take on Embry-Riddle at 7:00 pm.
The Bucs return home next Wednesday to face conference rival Florida Tech in a non-conference matchup at 4:30 pm.
