Men's Tennis 'Singles' Out Wins at South Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. – Barry University men's tennis players opened the fall season with singles victories at the ITA/USTA South Region Championships at Florida Southern Friday. 

Nico Dreer beat Rollins’ Mike Santa Lucia, 6-2, 7-5, in the first round. Franco Echenique was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Saint Leo’s Jacobo Gonzalez-Tamo. Fabian Groetsch beat West Florida’s Warren Khun, 6-0, 6-4. Kevin Sielmann defeated Florida Southern’s Charles Garneau, 6-1, 6-1. Fabian Pronnet blanked Mississippi College's Matt Martin, 6-0, 6-0. 

In the opening round of doubles play, Dreer and Echenique lost to Saint Leo’s Gonzalez-Tarrio and Fons Verberne, 8-5. Groetsch and Fabian Pronnet fell to West Florida’s Kenny Brasil and Sebastian Sanchez, 8-6.

A lightning delay halted play in the mid-afternoon.
