Women's Tennis Trio Advances to ITA Quarters

LAKELAND, Fla. – Barry University women’s tennis players Sonja Larsen, Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken all moved into the singles quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/United States Tennis Association NCAA Division II South Region Championships at Florida Southern Saturday.

Larsen beat Tampa’s Kelsey Matthews, 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 16. She and Ana Pain also advanced to the doubles quarterfinals after recording an 8-1 win over Nova Southeastern’s Irina Constantinide and Alex Johansson.

Fritschken and Onila won their first singles matches after receiving a bye in the opening round. Fritschken defeated Palm Beach Atlantic’s Yoanna Pershev, 6-1, 6-3. Onila beat Taylor Brown of Rollins, 6-1, 6-1. In the Round of 16, Onila was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Valdosta State’s Jennifer Rink. Fritschen beat VSU’s Joanna Lario to reach the quarters.

Pain lost to top-seeded Valentine Confalonieri, of Lynn, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7, in the third round.

Fritschken and Onila were 8-0 winners over Tampa’s Kristen Mee and Matthews in their first doubles match after receiving an opening round bye.

ITA SOUTH REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS
