Men's Tennis Foursome Advance at ITA Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. – Barry University men’s tennis players Ahmed Triki, Franco Echenique, Fabian Groetsch and Kevin Sielmann all moved into the third round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/United States Tennis Association NCAA Division II South Region Championships singles tournament at Florida Southern Saturday.

Top-seeded Triki survived a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-7 win over West Florida’s Pablo Borrero after receiving a first round bye Friday. Echenique won his second straight match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rollins’ Adrian DiFelice, the ninth seed, to advance to the Round of 16.

Fourth-seeded Groetsch was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Rollins’ Jacobo Herrero. Sielmann defeated Florida Tech’s Patrick Hernandez, the 14th seed, 6-2, 6-1.

Barry newcomer Fabian Pronnet lost to Rollins’ third-seeded Anton Bettnik, 6-0, 2-6, 10-7. Nico Dreer fell to Lynn’s Danny Riggs, 7-5, 6-2.

In the doubles bracket, top-seeded Sielmann and Triki beat Florida Southern’s Arthur Viallaneix and Brian Slivonik, 8-1, in their first match after receiving an opening-round bye. 

Triki then beat Nicolas Uryson of Palm Beach Atlantic, 6-4, 6-1, to move on to Sunday's 10 a.m. quarterfinals. Groetsch also moved on to the quarters with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over West Florida's Kenny Brasil. Sielmann was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Joe Schemm of Valdosta State.

Echenique's Round of 16 match versus Lynn's Alessio Iannozzi was suspended due to rain. The winner of that match will play Groetsch in the quarters.
