Men's Tennis Wins Exhibition at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis team beat Florida Atlantic in an exhibition match Wednesday.

Barry won 12 of the 15 matches. No official team score was kept.

At No. 1 doubles, Barry's Fabian Groetsch and Ahmed Triki beat Rich Meade and Sean Bach, 8-4. Barry's No. 2 team of Kevin Sielmann and Renato Lombardi were 8-4 winners over Robbie Dubuque and Zandrix Acob. FAU's Andrei Morin Kougoucheff and Alex Gitin defeated newcomers Fabian Pronnet and Dominik Haider, 8-6, at No. 3.

Barry's No. 4 team of Franco Echenique and Nico Dreer pulled out an 8-6 win over Will Neuner and Trey Nickerson. At No. 5, FAU's Kian Mclean and Stefan Burnett beat Ajdin Tahirovic and Austin Cruz, 8-3.

Groetsch defeated Acob, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), at No. 1 singles. Triki beat Neuner, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2. Dreer was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Gitin at the No. 3 flight. Mclean defeated Sielmann, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4.

Lombardi overcame a first-set loss to beat Dubuque, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 singles in the longest match of the day. Haider was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Burnett at No. 6.

Pronnet beat Nickerson, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 7. Echenique defeated Bacha, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 8. Tahirovic defeated Ignacio Jimenez, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 9. Cruz beat Harrison Heysek, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 10.

The Buccaneers, who are ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, will open the regular season Feb. 21 at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach.
