A message from Student Health Services

Dear Members of the Barry Community,

To date Florida has confirmed 20 cases of Zika virus, with Miami Dade county reporting 7 cases, Broward 3 cases, Lee 3 cases, Santa Rosa 1 case, St. Johns 1 case, Osceola 1 case, and Alachua 1case. All the cases in Florida are travel related and do not involve pregnant women.

Barry University is asking that all individuals who are planning to travel the countries of concern listed, practice diligence for bite prevention. Detailed information can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/zika/index.html.  If a faculty or staff member is sponsoring a trip through Barry University, please refer to the Travel Abroad policy located on the Human Recourses web site.  It is very important that all faculty, staff and students traveling abroad for any official Barry related trip register with World Aware.  For more information regarding World Aware please contact Lori Agostino in legal affairs at lagostini@barry.edu

For further information, a Zika hotline has been activated and the Florida Department of Health will be managing the calls. The Zika Virus Information Hotline is 855-622-6735. Florida Department of Health staff is available to answer questions regarding this virus and state preparedness efforts.
