Urgent Message from Public Safety

Urgent Message from Public Safety

In light of the two incidents this week involving a non-university young male attempting to steal personal iPhones from two students, below is a quick update on steps University officials are taking in response.

  1. Public Safety is cooperating with the Miami Shores and Miami Dade County Police investigation
  2. Local police is providing extra campus presence
  3. University security officers have been briefed and are on high alert
  4. Access control at exterior gates is being examined and tightened on the perimeter
  5. Exterior lights are being replaced and enhanced with new LED fixtures

The safety and security of our students, staff and faculty is very important to us. Please contact public safety immediately at 305-899-3333 if you observe inappropriate behavior on campus. Remember, see something, say something.

As a general rule, always be aware of your surroundings and walk with a purpose. Walking while texting or using your personal device can be a distraction. Campus emergency phones are placed throughout the campus that go directly to Public Safety. Keep your personal belongings in view while studying on campus and never leave them unsecured and unattended. Use good judgement when leaving the campus.

If you haven’t done so already, download the University’s emergency alert notification application RAVE Guardian to your mobile phone.
