Barry places 56 student-athletes on SSC Spring Honor Roll

Barry's Women's Tennis team placed all ten of its members on the SSC Spring Honor Roll.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Barry University placed 56 student-athletes on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the spring 2008 semester. In addition to the Barry students, Commissioner Michael J. Marcil announced the induction of 420 other students from the remaining eight institutions.

To be eligible for the SSC Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a scale of 4.0. Student-athletes in men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf and women's rowing are included in the honor roll.

Eight Barry student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester. Softball and women’s basketball led the way as each team had two members with perfect 4.0’s. Those earning a 4.0 GPA include Brittany Anderson (softball), Amanda Mageean (women’s basketball), Nicole Okabanjo (women’s basketball), John Parafinczuk (men’s basketball), Danielle Rezendes (softball), Patrick Rittenauer (men’s tennis), Brett Rossi (baseball), and Johanna Soderstrom (women’s golf).

In addition to the 67 national championships the SSC has won since its inception in 1975, the SSC’s student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classrooms. The NCAA announced earlier this year that the Sunshine State Conference led all 24 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 85 percent.
