Public Relations and Corporate Communication

The Master of Arts in Communication with a specialization in Public Relations and Corporate Communication is the only program of its kind in South Florida. Combining the skills of public relations within the context of corporate communication will provide you the necessary knowledge and experience to succeed in communication within any business sector. You will work with real clients during your studies, developing full communication campaigns on your own in order to prepare you for the job market. At the end of the program you will be able to communicate effectively as a speaker and a writer, and have the confidence and skills necessary to achieve top positions within any field of communication.

Overview

If you are looking for a degree that provides flexibility in the job market, then this master’s program is for you. Job opportunities in this field are growing, allowing our graduates to seek out positions not only in public relations, but also within advertising, marketing, creative writing, copywriting, sales and more. The specialization in Public Relations and Corporate Communication teaches students to analyze today’s complex organizational settings and develop communication strategies that respond to the information needs of their internal and external audiences. 

The coursework in this specialization builds on knowledge gained from core classes in areas such as organizational communication and conflict management, as well as other topics.  Students then engage in advanced analysis of case studies and construct public relations campaigns for audiences ranging from corporate clients to non-profit organizations.  Training in multi-media production and uses of contemporary social media within communications campaigns are also an option, as is an internship experience.  During your time in the master’s program, you will learn from our distinguished faculty who have years of experience in the communication industry, and who pull from curriculum on an ideal combination of theory and practical application. Also, hear from professional speakers who will give you the real life insight of what it takes to succeed in this industry. Students are required to complete this program with either a thesis or capstone project.

Length of Program

As a full-time student (3 classes per semester), you can complete this master’s degree within two-three years. If you choose to take classes part-time, you must complete the program within seven years to receive the degree. You may start the program in the fall only, and we do not offer classes during the summer semesters. Most classes are held in the evening hours to accommodate working professionals, or those who have responsibilities during the day.

For the Entrepreneur

Are you interested in starting your own company? This program will also teach you how to communicate with your employees and/or the public, and handle the unexpected situations that arise. These skills are essential if you are in the process of running your own business as you'll learn how to communicate effectively with different cultures, different expectations, and different backgrounds.
