Leadership

The SM-DI program is committed to educating professional aquatic leaders for careers in a personal service industry that requires a high degree of risk management and individual responsibility. The importance of the leadership component built into the program is evident in the daily lives of our students as they interact with others on-and-off campus.

Once you accept responsibility for others and begin to develop your leadership skills, you become more mature and your maturity is evident to everyone around you. Doors open and you are sought to fill leadership roles. Many of our student majors are employed on campus as Residential Assistants and are active in student services and student government. It is common for our Sport Management-Diving Industry students to win major leadership awards on campus.

Before each and every dive outing students sign a statement attesting to their personal preparation for the diving activity – understanding that they not only are responsible for themselves, but for their impact on the safety and well-being of their dive partners and the supervisory staff. Personal accountability is a definite requirement for this adventure program.

Our expectations are high; our students appreciate this expectation of excellence because they understand that it is this type of training that makes them rise above the crowd. Talk to any of our students – they understand the difference our program has made to their lives and to the divers with whom they will interact in the future
