Profile

Elsie M. Miranda, DMin, is associate professor of Theology at Barry University, Miami Shores, Florida where she serves as Director of the Master of Arts in Practical Theology as well as Director of Ministerial Formation.  Dr. Miranda began her tenure at Barry University as the associate director of Mission and Ministry in 1996. Since that time, she has continued to serve the local and national community by promoting the mission and core commitments of the University.

Her academic and research interests are in the areas of practical theology, liberating theology (feminist, queer, Latin American theology), inter-culturality and ministerial formation.  

She contributed to the edited volume Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century: Present and Future, (Convivuum Press, 2010) and was co-editor and contributor in  Calling for Justice Throughout the World, Catholic Women Theologians on the HIV AIDS Pandemic, (Continuum Press, 2009). 

Dr. Miranda continues to explore contemporary theological issues in the church and the world through her scholarly work, her teaching and dialogue with students, and her service to the community. Most recently, she participated in the Hispanic Summer Program 2011 at Mundelein Seminary serving on the Association of Theological Schools committee on the Revision of Standards.  She looks forward to further collaboration with colleagues to advance the theological education and professional integrity of ecclesial ministry in the US and abroad.
