PhD, Educational Psychology with specialization in Computer Applications, University of Calgary

Lauran Sandals received his PhD in 1973 from the University of Calgary (U of C) in the Department of Educational Psychology with a specialization in Computer Applications. He taught at the University of Manitoba (U of M) from 1973-1986 where he had the ranks of assistant, associate, and full professor. While at the U of M he served as head of the department of Educational Psychology from 1976-1983. He was coordinator and then director of the Manitoba Computer Assisted Learning Consortium (MCALC) from 1975-1986. From 1986-2002 he taught at the University of Calgary faculty of education, serving as head of the department of Educational Psychology from 1986-1991. From 1999-2001 he served as the director of the U of C Learning Commons, a University-wide center to support post-secondary teaching and the applications of instructional technologies for teaching and university research.

He retired from the U of C in June 2002 and is a professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Education. From 2002-2004 he was a consultant for a K-12 educational portal sponsored by Texas A&M University and in 2005 he taught nine graduate DETA courses for Florida Atlantic University (FAU) under contract for the School Board of Broward County (SBBC). He worked from 2006-2008, as a research scientist with the Miami VA hospital in the Geriatric Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC), and was also an affiliated professor of Medicine at the University of Miami Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine. From 2008 through 2011 he taught graduate courses in Educational Technology for FAU and graduate courses in Quantitative Methods and Research Methods for Barry University. For the 2010 - 2011 academic years he was a visiting professor at Barry University and as of August 2011 he was appointed to a full time faculty position at Barry University with the rank of Professor.
