Dr. Cynthia Fischer joined the Adrian Dominican School of Education as an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Reading Program in August, 2006. Previously she taught graduate reading courses at the University of Virginia, from which she earned her Ph.D. in Reading Education in 2006. She has worked with struggling readers and writers at the secondary level for over twenty-five years, and also served as a literacy specialist.
Dr. Fischer has published articles in peer-reviewed journals such as The Reading Teacher and the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy. One of those articles was selected for inclusion in two books published by the International Reading Association. She has had many recent professional presentations, both as an individual and team member, at local, national, and international conferences in the area of literacy. During 2007 she, along with other members of the Reading and Literacy Studies Department, served on a blue ribbon committee using Louisiana’s Language Competencies for Teachers in Higher Education Programs Rubric for Review of Evidence to assess Louisiana’s colleges and universities
