Catheryn J. Weitman, Ph.D.

Associate Dean, Graduate Education and Research

Dr. Weitman is the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research and full professor. During her tenure at Barry University and with the Adrian Dominican School of Education, she held varied leadership positions, including serving as the Chair of the University's Grade Appeal process; as the Department of Education Liaison for the School of Arts and Sciences, Adrian Dominican School of Education, and the School of Human Performances and Leisure Sciences; and led national accreditation process for elementary education programs for over 10 years. She was honored in 2002 as the recipient of the annual “Friend of School Psychology” award through the School of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Weitman earned her degrees from Stephens College (AA degree), the University of Missouri (BS, in Education), the University of Guam (M.Ed), and Texas A & M University (Ph.D. in Educational Administration, personnel, and curriculum and instruction). Before coming to Barry University , she was the dean of the School of Education at Glenville State College, Glenville , West Virginia .

Dr. Weitman has made numerous presentations at the international, national, regional, and state levels. She is often called upon to discuss assessment and performance –based practices. Dr. Weitman is a reviewer for Dimensions of Early Childhood published by the Southern Early Childhood Association and she is a member of the Florida Department of Education Program Approval Standards Revision Task Force. She sits on the ACEI/NCATE Audit Committee which is an oversight of the NCATE accreditation process for elementary teacher education programs.
