Barry University – Central Florida Community College (CFCC)
SUCCEED Grant

As Florida's school districts continue to have difficulty attracting teachers in the critical shortage area of reading, Barry University has developed a partner to assist in meeting the needs of Florida’s teachers and school districts. The Ocala Campus of the Adrian Dominican School of Education of Barry University has entered into a partnership with Central Florida Community College (CFCC) to offer scholarships for CFCC’s Alternative Certification Program graduates to enter Barry’s reading master’s degree program.

The Alternative Certification Program (ACP) will offer five program completers a scholarship to assist in their pursuit of a master’s degree in reading.  The ACP will also purchase 10 copies of every textbook needed for the first semester of the Barry reading master’s degree. These books will be placed in a lending library for any future Barry University student to use.

Students will begin their studies, as part of the fourth Ocala Cohort for the MS in Reading  in January 2008, and will graduate with their master’s degree in reading in May, 2009.
