The School of Education's Montessori Program Began its Annual Book Club
The School of Education's Montessori program began its annual book club,
open to all faculty and staff, Tuesday, Sept. 18.
For the monthly book club, faculty and staff are invited to study Maria
Montessori's "The Absorbent Mind," with several chapters being discussed
each month. Because book study will be divided into chapters, those
interested in joining need not attend every session.
Last year, the program hosted a book study of another Montessori text,"To Educate the Human Potential." Due to the level of interest, the
program will be offering this year's monthly book club, and opening the
study to others in the surrounding community.
The book club is one of many opportunities offered by the program, the
only graduate program of it's kind in the Southeastern United States.
With sites on Barry's main campus and in Jacksonville, Fla., over 60
students are currently enrolled in the degree in both graduate and
specialized degree curriculums.
The degree, which has been offered for 17 years at Barry, recently
gained recognition, when a student was profiled in the Sun Sentinel,
Aug. 12.
For those interested in joining the monthly book club, a full schedule
is below:
"The Absorbent Mind" will be available at a discounted price in the
