Career Highlights

Dr. Javier Gonzalez is an Associate Professor of Education in the Curriculum, Pedagogy & Research Interdisciplinary Unit with over 32 years of experience in the fields of early childhood and elementary education. He earned his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a cognate specialty in Early Childhood Education from Barry University in 2011. Dr. Gonzalez taught for the Dade County Public Schools as well as for the private sector. His extensive higher education experience include Florida International University, Miami Dade College, Kennesaw State University (GA) and Chattahoochee Technical College (GA). His teaching interests include child development, educational neuroscience, team building, historical /contemporary perspectives in curriculum, and positive classroom engagement. Dr. Gonzalez has presented at numerous international, national, and regional conferences. He is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Eastern Educational Research Association, and the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). He was appointed Conference Peer Reviewer for NAEYC in 2018 and EERA in 2019. His current research interests include the maternal child/caregiver relationship in the first three years of life; pro-social classrooms; and teasing, aggression and bullying in the lives of young children. His philosophical stance embraces constructivism, humanism, and transformative education.
