Elementary Education / ESOL, MS (Initial Certification)
Make a difference in a child's life... Help to make the world a better place... Affect eternity
"Few matters are more important than the quality of the teachers in our nation's schools." John Goodlad |
It is expected that by the year 2007, there will be a need for over two million certified, qualified, and caring educators in the United States.
This is an exciting time for you to begin your journey towards becoming a more accomplished educator and enhancing the career that you have chosen. By learning the best practices involved in teaching elementary students, you will be helping to shape children's attitudes towards schooling and develop the habits-of-mind needed for life-long learning.
Completion of the Master's in Elementary Education with ESOL Endorsement will prepare you to teach in a K-6 grade classroom setting in a public or private school. Instruction focuses on teaching towards the needs, strengths, and experiences of all children (including those from non-English-speaking backgrounds), so that you will become culturally and linguistically sensitive to the diversity that exists in schools today. The ESOL Endorsement is widely recognized as the new standard in elementary education teacher preparation.
Upon completion of the program and all requirements you will be eligible to apply for a Professional Educator's Certificate from the Florida State Department of Education.
Additionally, the preparation that you receive in this program, along with specific subject matter content from undergraduate coursework, may enable you to teach in a middle-school setting. |
