Program Overview Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Barry University's Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program provides high quality state-of-the-art first response education and training skills essential for public safety. Because there are clear expectations for improved health, value and efficiency in the EMS field, the need for a quality EMS program in an accredited higher learning institution is a logical progression for the EMS community.

Professional first responders attend to the needs of individuals and communities during times of crises, disasters, and emergencies. EMT and Paramedic training can help advance careers in many pre-hospital care categories, such as emergency rooms, security-related fields, ski patrols, harbor supervision and life guarding.

Career opportunities for first responders trained as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics are projected to grow by 24 percent before 2024, at a rate greater than other occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
