Maryellen (Maggie) House

Maryellen (Maggie) House is the Florida Regional Manager of Education for a nationally recognized private ambulance company. She is based in Broward County, Florida with responsibilities that include compliance with all state and governing statutes and policies, overseeing critical care and transport of specialty patients, maintaining the knowledge base and skill levels of all employees, and oversight of the in-house quality assurance and investigation process. House also is the local and state liaison between her agency and multi-system agencies which are inclusive of large hospital districts, fire-rescue agencies and law enforcement.

In 2004 and 2005, she responded to Hurricanes Charley, Gene, Frances and Ivan in which she performed over 700 hours of documented service over a forty-five (45) day period. During this time, she was directly responsible for organizing the movement of over six-hundred (600) patients, some critically ill, with the challenge of severe local hospital storm damage; acting as liaison between Port Charlotte Fire Rescue and local hospitals; and providing all levels of patient care to the community of Port Charlotte. For her actions, she received the Certificate of Excellence, Above and Beyond the Call of Duty, American Medical Response 2004, and the Hero of the Year, American Medical Response, Hollywood Medical Center 2004. Also in 2005, House led the first twenty (20) ambulances into the Katrina devastation six (6) hours after landfall. House coordinated the pre-positioning and deployment of over four hundred (400) personnel over the first consecutive twenty four (24) days with over five hundred twenty eight (528) documented hours of service in Biloxi, Mississippi.

From 1996 through 1998, she was a Battalion Chief for American Medical Response units while providing first response to the Town of Davie, Florida. Her responsibilities included the oversight of daily operations of EMT’s and Paramedics, liaison between local hospital districts, law enforcement and Fire-Rescue, actively participated in all quality assurance and quality implementation processes with the Medical Director. She received the S.T.A.R. Award American Medical Response in 1997, and nominated by the Town of Davie for the “Hero of the Year” in 1998.

She is the former Program Coordinator for the Emergency Medical Services Department for City College, Ft. Lauderdale and is currently coordinating the Barry University Emergency Medical Services program.
