Nursing (BSN) Accelerated Option Admissions Requirements

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree or higher, and who meet the requirements for admission into the program. If the student's prior degree(s) does not fulfill certain prerequisites, that student must enroll as a pre-nursing candidate before starting the 15-month Accelerated BSN option.

Students applying for the Accelerated BSN Program must have all required prerequisites completed before starting Nursing courses.

Requirements

To be considered for acceptance into the Accelerated BSN option, the following is required:

  • Minimum achievement of 3.0 cumulative college GPA and fewer than five Withdrawals, Ds or Fs when combined.
  • Grade C or greater for liberal arts courses -  Art, Music, Dance, Theater, Photography (3 credits required).
  • Grade C or greater for science courses with no repeats (Science courses must be completed before admission to the program) - Human Anatomy and Lab (4 credits), Human Physiology and Lab (4 credits), Microbiology and Lab (4 credits).
  • Grade C or greater in , PSY283 – Developmental Psychology, and MAT 152 – Probability & Statistics with one repeat available.
  • Completed all prerequisite courses prior to being admitted to the nursing program - Introduction to Psychology (3 credits), Development Psychology (3 credits), Philosophy Distribution ( 3 credits), Theology distribution (3 credits), Digital Literacy ( 3 credits), First year Composition and Rhetoric ( 3 credits), Writing about Literature (3 credits), Speech ( 3 credits), One elective from History, Economics, Geography, Political Science (3 credits) , One elective from Humanities, Foreign Language, Literature ( 3credits), Additional Humanities or Art ( 3 credits), Bio-Medical Ethics (3 credits).
  • Interview at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.
  • All prospective students must take a standardized nursing program admission exam as designated by the program prior to being evaluated by the Admissions Committee. All students should make every effort to attain as high a score as possible in order to strengthen their application for admission to the BSN program.
  • Minimum TEAS score (Overall 62%). Only three attempts allowed.

Applicants are notified in writing of the admission decision after all official application materials have been received and evaluated. Completion of the admission file is the responsibility of the applicant. Meeting general admission requirements to Barry University does not guarantee admission to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Barry University's Nursing Program is a limited access program and not all qualified applicants may be admitted.
