Congratulations to Dr. Laura Alonso-Gallo who was granted the prestigious Sister Jeanne O’Laughlin, OP, Scholar’s Award. Presented annually in recognition of exceptional scholarly performance at Barry University, this monetary award is given to current faculty who have taught at least four years full-time.

Dr. Alonso-Gallo, a highly respected scholar in the US and abroad, has dedicated ten years to Barry. She is currently Professor of English and Chair of the Department of English and Foreign Languages. Her scholarly accomplishments in American Studies, which range from canonical, ethnic, and immigrant contemporary fiction, gender studies, comparative and cultural studies, language, philosophy, and mythology, have been shared through dozens of papers presented at conferences worldwide. She also edited or co-edited eight books, authored eighteen book chapters and eleven articles in prestigious journals. Most recently, she was asked to contribute a chapter to a book, Teaching Late Twentieth Century Mexicana and Chicana Writers, which is part of an esteemed MLA series. 

This is a well-deserved honor for a valued professor and scholar.
