Exceptional Student Education
What is Exceptional Student Education?
Exceptional Student Education is a broad term that describes the special education programs that are specifically designed to meet the needs of students with varying exceptionalities. The Exceptional Student Education program at Barry University will prepare you to teach and work with students with varying disabilities such as specific learning disabilities (SLD), intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD). With a degree in exceptional student education from Barry University you will be certified to teach students with special needs in grades K-12.
Exceptional Student Education Program
Graduates of the program receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and are eligible for certification by the Florida Department of Education in ESE with an endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The certification in ESE and the ESOL endorsement are two critical teacher shortage areas throughout the state of Florida. Credentials in these two areas place our graduates ahead of all the others. Barry graduates are highly qualified and more marketable in today’s competitive field of special education.
Career Opportunities
Earlier and more comprehensive identification of students to be enrolled in Exceptional Student Education programs has led to an increasing number of job opportunities. Graduates of the programs are highly successful in obtaining teaching positions in public and private schools throughout the state of Florida, and the United States.
