Millions of American youth end up on the road to prison rather than on the road to a career, particularly young men of color. Since 1980 the American prison population has quadrupled, and though the US represents just 5% of the global population, it currently has 25% of its prisoners. If current trends continue, 1 in 3 African American males and 1 in 7 Latino males born today can expect to go to prison.

What policies in our justice and education systems contribute to increased rates of juvenile arrests?  Is there a relationship between race and mass incarceration? What can we do to prevent children from being channeled towards prison and a life time of second-class status?

Join community experts, students, alumni, faculty, and staff to explore creative approaches to this timely issue.
