As the author of Part III of the Commentary, "Adrian Dominican Foundation," Sister Sara Fairbanks, OP, PhD, will discuss a key dimension of our Christian religious education that grounds Barry’s Mission: Spirituality at the Heart of the University – Evolving God images. In her presentation, Sister Fairbanks will explore the basic characteristics of our childhood images of God which we take from our parents, from organized religion and from the culture, what pastoral theologians call a Superego God. As we grow and develop into mature adults our various experiences of God transform our images of the Superego God into images of the Living God. What are the basic characteristics of the Living God and how can our Barry Mission witness to this Living God through our Core Commitments?

Sister Fairbanks entered the Adrian Dominican Sisters in 1985. She first worked at Barry University as a campus minister from 1990-93. She then earned her doctoral degree in systematic theology at St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto. She returned to Barry in 1999 and is now an associate professor of theology in Barry's Department of Theology and Philosophy.

You can download a copy of the Commentary: “Mission Statement and Core Commitments: A Commentary” or pick up a hard copy in the Office of Mission Engagement (Thompson 203). Fairbanks’s chapter can be found on page 22.
