
Dr. Giselle Elgarresta Rios

Giselle Elgarresta Rios is Assistant Professor of Music at Barry University, in Miami Shores, Florida since 1996. She earned her academic degrees from the University of Miami with a Master's in Vocal Performance and Doctorate in Choral Conducting. At Barry University she sits on many active committees in the Fine Arts Department, Co-Chairs the Communication and Technology Committee, and is an elected member of Faculty Senate.
Dr. Rios has performed in soprano roles in Europe and the United States, where she has sung the roles of Mimi and Musetta from La Boheme, Masha in The Music Shop, Fanny in La Cambiale di Matrimonio, and other s. As conductor, Dr. Rios has conducted and performed in various concerts in Notre Dame, Eglise Madeleine in Paris, France, and made her debut as the first Cuban-American woman to direct in Carnegie Hall in New York. Dr. Rios returned to Carnegie Hall to present an all Hispanic program including choruses from Zarzuelas and Latin American repertoire. Most recently, she made her debut conducting Miami Pops Symphony and Chorus for the Concert Association of Florida in the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
Dr. Rios was named guest conductor and consultant in L'Aquila, Italy where she frequently presents concerts as director and soprano in 2007 and conducted in Pescara, Italy in 2010. Dr. Rios has also been presented in Mexico, California and Puerto Rico. Upcoming engagements include performing in Italy and Chile. In addition, Dr. Rios is a vocal and choral consultant in schools throughout South Florida and has collaborated with the Greater Miami Youth Symphony and the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami. Dr. Giselle Elgarresta Rios graduated Phi Kappa Phi on President's Honor Roll and a member of Iron Arrow. Current memberships include College Music Society, National Association of Teacher's of Singing and American Choral Director's Association.
