Mission of the Music Program
Barry University’s music curriculum focuses on enhancing the student’s educational experience by following the liberal arts tradition. The Music Program is designed to help build musical skill and artistic performance while preparing students for a wide variety of careers in music.
Becoming a Barry music student will afford the student:
Performance opportunities which begin upon entrance to the university as a freshman, rather than well into the third or fourth year of the Bachelor’s Degree program.
A collaborative atmosphere that encourages student team-learning and supportive group study.
Additional Job opportunities resulting from the incorporation of liberal arts courses into the music curriculum.
Personal attention that helps develop an intimate student/faculty relationship to best develop skills and improve musical performance.
Our dedicated and internationally recognized music faculty members will work individually with students, integrating music theory in their teaching of applied lessons, ensembles, and music core courses. Students are encouraged to develop skills in critical thinking, writing, and communication in addition to acquiring technological skills that will equip them for future employment in the field.
The Barry University Fine Arts/Music program embodies an artistic environment that provides the student extensive performance opportunities in preparation for careers in performance. These opportunities include weekly forums, master classes, musical theatre and opera productions, choral/orchestra concerts, and student showcases.
In accordance with the university’s mission, Barry’s music students are committed to providing service, and are involved in exciting collaborative projects with organizations throughout South Florida’s multi-cultural community.
