For the second consecutive year, the Barry University School of Law trial team was victorious at the ABA/Quinnipiac University School of Law Trial Advocacy Competition held Oct. 28-30 in Hamden and New Haven, Conn. It was the Barry Law trial team’s sixth win at a national competition since 2008.
The trial team that competed at Quinnipiac, comprised of students Michael Deen, Reem Elkhaldi, Sheryl Johansen and Kelly Johnson, went undefeated in the competition, scoring wins over trial teams from law schools at Pace and Creighton in the preliminary rounds, host team Quinnipiac in the semifinals, and St. John's in the finals.
Deen and Elkaldi have won previous championships, while Johansen and Johnson were first-time competitors. The team was coached by Michael Kraynick and John Beamer. The trial team’s faculty advisory is Mitchell Frank, an associate professor of law at Barry.
