| “For me effective teaching involves sharing
with my students the joy and energy derived from self expression
through photography. I encourage them as friends and as fellow
artists rather than treating them solely as students in a classroom” |
Bio:
Born in Havana, Cuba, Silvia Lizama received
her BFA degree from Barry University, and her MFA from Rochester
Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.
Her black and white hand colored photography
depicts unusual environments and objects found in her travels. Her
keen eye finds the unusual in the sometimes common place.
Having exhibited locally since 1978, her work
has gained national and international attention and has been included
in prestigious exhibitions and collections. Major awards include
the Southern Arts Federation/NEA Regional Visual Arts Fellowship
Grant (1993) and the South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant (1992),
among others.
