Founders’ Week 2011 kicked off on Saturday, November 12th with the Distinguished Alumni Awards. A variety of programs, events, and activities took place during the week highlighting the mission of Barry University.

On Monday, the Founder’s week kickoff was held in the lobby of Thompson Hall which highlighted BOB (buildings of Barry) and two special guests, Mother Mary Gerald Barry, played by Sister Sara Fairbanks and the late Mr. Brennan, whose father was one of the original architects of Barry University.

Sister Ann Willits was our distinguished lecturer on Tuesday and she captured the hearts and attention of students, faculty, and staff through her expert storytelling techniques.

Midweek, students, faculty, and staff came together to “Plant the Campus Red.” This event beautifies our campus and this year highlighted the Community Garden behind the chapel.

Barry Community Fest welcomed over 1000 students, faculty, staff who sang Happy Birthday to Barry, took part in collaborative team competitions such as musical chairs, and tug-o-war, and enjoyed food from local food truck vendors.

Friday’s Interfaith Prayer Service and Core Commitments Luncheon highlighted the diversity of faiths on campus as well as the dedication to the mission from various student projects directed by Barry faculty.

The week concluded with the Gobble Wobble 5K Fitness run/walk, a recent addition to Barry’s Founders’ Week. The Gobble Wobble is planned by students in the School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences as part of their coursework and is in alignment with Sister Linda’s commitment to the Let’s Move Barry Campaign.
