Traditions honor our proud past and recognize you as a valuable member of our campus community.
College is all about making connections – with your classmates, your professors, and the community. So, make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We want you to feel welcome, excited, and happy that you're here. Our campus events ensure that you do.
Weeks of Welcome
Get the school year started off right with the Weeks of Welcome, a month full of activities. It starts with the New Student Investiture – your official welcome to Barry University. Then mark your calendar for the Comedy Slam, featuring the nation's funniest comics. GLO – the chic annual white-attire party – will definitely get you out on the dance floor. And don't forget to bring your flip-flops and sunscreen for the Labor Day Pool Party. The month continues with sporting events, where you can root for your Barry Buccaneers, and includes other activities that help you to make a smooth transition into college.
Events throughout the Year
Once the fall semester settles in, volunteer with your friends on St. Martin De Porres Service Day, which honors the Dominican saint who served the poor. November brings the Founders' Week Community Fest, a celebration of Barry's history and home to the unforgettable bed races.
The spring semester offers the Festival of Nations, a one-day party recognizing the cultural diversity on Barry's campus. And join the Barry commitment to giving back with the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Alternative Spring Break (ASB), where you can learn about social, political, and environmental issues by dedicating a week to service during your spring break. ASB has allowed students to help rebuild New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and aid in other relief efforts within communities.
Throughout the year, our Department of Fine Arts puts on incredible shows – plays, operas, art exhibits, music, and dance recitals. Get in on the fun even if you aren't an arts major – our theatre department holds open auditions.
