RE: Goizueta Minority Science Scholarship
To Whom It May Concern:
I was born in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba in 1976. I came to the United States
with my family when I was eighteen years old. Learning a new language
and adjusting to a new culture was not easy for me, but with the help
and support of my family I was able to graduate from Miami Dade Community
College in Pre-Medical Sciences with Honors in 1998.
This same year my precious daughter was born, and since then I have
had to work full time in order to provide for her and my family. When
I found out about the adult Biology/Histotechnology program at Barry
University I was thrilled. Not only was this the degree I was looking
for, but it also offered me the flexibility to take all my classes in
the evening.
At Barry University I had had the privilege to be taught by the most
knowledgeable professors who have not only challenged me intellectually
and culturally, but that continue to enrich my life.
Working and studying full time have not been easy. Even though I work
an average of forty hours a week, that has not prevent me from being
punctual, studying harder each day and achieving excellent grades.
Thanks to your generosity, I have found more desire to try my best
not only in school but also in life. I will continue to live a life
worthy of your sacrifice, but most importantly of our Savior’s.
Thank you once again for being an instrument in His hands and for
supporting me in fulfilling my dreams.
Sincerely,
Cecilia Obregon
