Dr. Marie-France Desrosiers Memorial Scholarship
(Arts & Sciences – Psychology majors)
Dr. Desrosiers (1964-2002) Associate Professor at Barry University
was a clinical psychologist who joined the faculty in 1993. She earned
her BA in psychology from Swarthmore College and her MA and PhD from
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her area of specialty
involved working with adults regarding stress management and life coping
skills. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she was actively involved in
the Haitian-American and African-American communities in Miami. She
firmly believed that “Knowledge should serve not for status but
for the benefit of others.” This scholarship was established to
commemorate her academic achievements, her love and dedication to the
community and her emphasis on social responsibility. Support this scholarship.
Guidelines:
- African descent, preferably of Haitian origin or decent
- 3rd or 4th year student majoring in Psychology
- GPA 2.8 or above, 3.0 in major course work
- Active participant in community-based organization
