Davecia Ragoonath (MARC/ MIRT’02) received the Environmental Protection Agency’s Minority Academic Institutions Graduate Fellowship to complete the Masters in Microbial Ecology at FIU.
Ayana Canon (MIRT’01) will begin the MD program at New York Medical College, NY, Fall 2003. Michelle Rudinsky (MIRT/MBRS’99) was accepted into the MD program at Meharry Medical College and Howard University. She will be attending Meharry this fall. Edgar Tyson (MARC’94) received his Ph.D. in Social Work, University of Tennessee, TN, this summer. He has accepted the position of Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Florida State University. His manuscript “Rap Music in Social Work Practice with African American and Latino Youth: A Conceptual Model with Practical Applications”, was accepted for publication by the Journal of Human Behavior in Social Environment. Norma Lorenzo (MARC/ MIRT’99) completed the requirements for the Masters in Forensic Chemistry, Florida International University (FIU), FL, May 2002. She is currently pursuing the JD program at FIU. She has been selected to be part of FIU inaugural law review. Isa Arias (MIRT’00) accepted a research technician II position in Microbiology and Immunology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, NY. Parinda Parikh (MBRS’94) recently completed her Adult Psychiatry residency Training and is now conducting a fellowship in Child Adolescent Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital- Cornell Medical Center. Yuly Borroto-Pomares (MARC’96) completed the requirements for the Ph.D. degree (Developmental Psychology), University of Miami, FL, May 2003. She is currently as Assistant Professor at Miami Dade College. Carolina Valdes (MIRT) will begin the MD program at Ponse School of Medicine, Puerto Rico, Fall 2003. Joel Rodriquez (MARC’99) (Ph.D. Psychology Program, University of Michigan) will be joining the faculty at Barry, Fall 2003. This is the second MARC graduate who has returned to Barry to join the faculty. Karen Vassell (MBRS/MIRT’99) received the Masters in Biomedical Sciences, May 2003, Barry University, Miami, FL. William Buitrago (MARC/MIRT’99) (MD/Ph.D. Baylor College of Medicine) published Chakravarty G, Hadsell D, Buitrago W, Settleman J, Rosen JM. p190-B RhoGAP Regulates Mammary Ductal Morphogenesis. Mol Endocrinol. 2003 Jun; 17(6): 1054-65. Epub 2003 Mar 13. PMID: 12637587. Ivan Gonzalez (MBRS’96) completed the requirements for the MD degree, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is completing his residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, FL.
