- Fall 2005 Davecia Ragoonath (MIRT/MARC’02) presented her research on “Heterotrophic capabilities of the Black band disease cyanobacterium “Phormidium corallyticum” at the Associated Marine Laboratories of the Caribbean 32nd Annual Meeting in Curacao, June 2005. She successfully defended her master’s thesis in July 2005, and accepted an adjunct instructor position at Florida International University. Emmanuel Jean Jacques (MIRT/RISE’00) was accepted into the PA Program at Towson University, Baltimore, MD, June 2005. Florence Taylor (MARC’03) was recently certified as a legal intern at the Miami State Attorney’s Office as she progresses in her legal career. She is currently a 3rd year law student at University of Florida, FL. Gesulla Toussaint (RISE’04) was accepted into the MPH Epidemiology Program at Loma Linda University, CA, August 2005. Giavonni Lewis, MD (RISE’99) was offered a position at Loyola University Hospital in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in May, 2005. Ivan Gonzalez (RISE’96) won the Luis Felipe Mencia Award in Pediatric Surgery during his second year of rotations and has graduated this year from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He has accepted a Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Jean-Joseph Poisson (MIRT’04) will begin a PhD degree in Public Health at Florida International University, FL in August, 2005. Karen Vassell (RISE’99) will graduate from St. George’s University Medical School next year and is currently in her 3rd year rotation in Internal Medicine at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Kisha Morgan, MD (MIRT/RISE’95) has accepted a position in Sarasota, FL, to practice in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Lenore Polo-Rodicio, PhD (MARC’94) received a continuing contract (tenure) position at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Lisan Parker, PhD (MIRT/ MARC’98) is the recipient of the UNCF/MERCK postdoctoral fellowship. Maria Abreu (MIRT/MARC’03) was accepted into the PhD Program in Biomedical Science at Vanderbilt University, TN after completing the Post Baccalaureate Program in Biomedical Sciences there. She also received a graduate fellowship award to complete her PhD degree. Raquel Peralta (MIRT/RISE’03) accepted a position as a Family Planning Health Educator for the Community Care Network in New York. She enjoys her one-on-one interaction with patients talking about topics such as birth control and STDs. She conducts group workshops and works with a medically underserved community.
Raul Mirza (MIRT’04) was accepted into the following schools to study osteopathic medicine: Lake Erie College, Virginia College and Florida State University. He will attend Virginia College and will be joining the Air Force as part of the military scholarship program. Robinson Gaviria (MIRT’99) began working with Miami-Dade County’s Department of Environmental Resources Management as a Pollution Control Inspector. Sandra Franco (MIRT’04) was accepted into the Podiatry Program at Barry University, August 2005. Zameer Upadhya (MARC’99) will be recognized as the National Most Promising Business Professional of the year in August 2005 at the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) Awards. He is currently the President of the Miami Chapter and his Chapter is also being recognized as Chapter of the Year.
Alberto Alvarez (MARC’05) was accepted into the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, MD, and Vanderbilt University, TN. He received a Graduate Assistantship from the University of Maryland and will begin the PhD/DDS Program there this fall. Salihah Dick (MARC’05) will begin the Post Baccalaureate Program at Vanderbilt University, TN, in August. Anika Ramos (MARC’05) was accepted into the PhD in Immunology program at the State University of New York, NY, and the PA program at Barry University, FL. She begins the PA program at Barry in August. Empress Hughes (MIRT/RISE/MARC’04) was accepted into the Post Baccalaureate Program at Harvard University, MA, she begins the program there this fall. Fadia Narchet (MARC’00) received her PhD in Legal Psychology from Florida International University, FL in May 2005. Her graduate dissertation was “Modeling investigator bias, interrogation techniques, and suspect decision-making on the likelihood of confession”. Fadia has accepted an Assistant Professorship in Criminal Justice at the Department of Public Safety, University of New Haven, CT. |
