Student and Faculty Accomplishments
Christophe Arteaga (RISE) was inducted into the Tri-Beta Honor Society on April 8, 2005. He was also approved for nomination as an Associate Member in the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society in February 2005.

The research conducted by Raul Mirza (MIRT), Dr. George Fisher and Dr. Antimo D'Aniello at Stazione Zoologica, Napoli, Italy, were featured in a number of news articles including the HealthDay Reporter (16 March 2005) "Oysters may be an aphrodisiac after all"; WebMD Medical News (16 March 2005) "Want Romance? Oysters may really work"; Indianapolis Star (20 March 2005) "Oysters' link to lust may be more than legend"; New Scientist (26 March 2005) "Oysters may deserve their sexy reputation" and; New Telegraph (20 March 2005) "Raw oysters really are aphrodisiacs say scientists (and now is the time to eat them)."

Lina Arencibia (RISE) won the poster competition at the Whitney Laboratory this summer and received a travel award to attend the Sigma Xi conference in Seattle , WA in November 2005.

Dr. Peter Lin received the travel award to attend the Biotech 2005 Meeting, Philadelphia , PA , sponsored by the Biotech Institute. Dr. Lin learned about the latest techniques in biotechnology which he will implement in the new bioinformatics course offered this fall. Dr. Lin and two SCORE research students, Elaine Garcia and Luisa Reyes, also received travel awards to attend the Endocrine Society Meeting, San Diego , CA , June 2005. http://www.endo-society.org/minorityactivities/awarded.cfm .
