Student Quote

“The RISE and MARC programs have both trained me to be the best researcher that I can be. The person and graduate student that I am today is all due to the fact that I was part of these minority programs. In fact, I would not have been able to pursue my career so successfully if I did not have the opportunity to be a RISE and MARC student. The financial aid, the summer internships, the tutoring sessions, and the guidance are all the elements that make these programs unique. In addition, the mentoring acquired from our research mentors to our directors is exceptional and unforgettable. Now, that I am starting graduate school, I know that I am well prepared and ready to undertake whatever comes at me.”

“Being a student in the MARC U* STAR program has indeed increased my desire to attend graduate school. This program helped expose me to the various avenues available at the Ph.D. level and provided me with the resources to maximize my potential. The opportunity to conduct research as an undergraduate, attend conferences, and get the assistance needed when applying to graduate school, all without the financial burdens many other students face was definitely a blessing. I am extremely grateful for the funding, experience, and especially the support I received as a MARC student. Every aspect of the program was surely important to me as a student at Barry in pursuit of a Ph.D.”

Emilia Baron

Emilia is in the PhD Physiology Program, Texas Tech University, TX
