Newsletter - Spring 2001 - Page 2 Current Status of Past MARC U*STAR Graduates Teresa Peña (MARC'94) - completed the requirements for the Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Purdue University, IN. Currently she is the senior Technical Specialist for the Cytomegalo virus (CMV) business team at Abbott Laboratories Diagnostics Division. Joel Rodriguez (MARC U*STAR'99) - Ph.D. Social Psychology, University of Michigan, MI, was awarded the NSF Foundation Fellowship which covers tuition and provides a stipend for 3 years. His presentation "Bridging perspectives, study of culture, cognition," won first place at the American Psychological Society (APS) Conference, Miami Beach, FL, June 8-11, 2000. As a result he is now chair of the RSE-UP (Research on Socially and Economically Underrepresented Populations) committee. This article is featured in the September issue of the APS observer (www.psychologicalscience.org). Fadia Narchet (MARC U*STAR'00) - Ph.D. Legal Psychology, Florida International University, was awarded a Graduate Assistantship, September 2000. Dave Ghany (MARC'95) - Recently submitted a manuscript to the Journal of Learning Disabilities. He is completing the master's program in Counseling Psychology at Florida International University's college of Education. He is currently the data manager for five HIV research projects at the University of Miami's Department of Psychiatry. Frank Barbeite (MARC'98) - Ph.D. Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Georgia Institute of Technology married his sweetheart, Christie, in July 1999.
