Newsletter - Spring 2002 Accomplishments Faculty Accomplishments Dr. Gerhild Packert, Assistant Professor of Biology, NIH-MBRS SCORE Principal Investigator is "Faculty of the Year." She joined the faculty in 1997 and conducts research on Egigenetics of Drosophila. She teaches Genetics, Histology, Embryology and Freshman Biology.
Dr. Allen Sanborn (MARC/RISE) received the Ambassador Jean Wilkowski International Fellowship to carry out research in South Africa, December 2001. Dr. Mary Handel-Fernandez (MARC) received the Barry University Research Scholarship Fund to conduct research on the Expression and Characterization of ikappa b-like gene in mice. Dr. Frank Muscarella (MARC) received the Barry University Research Scholarship Fund to investigate Sexual Differentiation of the Brain and Partner Preference Characteristics in Homosexual and Heterosexual Men and Women. Student Accomplishments Christina Stujenske (MARC-Chemistry) received the Barry University Department of Physical Sciences Honors Scholarship acknowledging her excellent academic performance, outstanding contributions to the department, and her commitment to community service (Nov 19, 2001). Jenese Gamory (MIRT'00) has been accepted into Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine.
