Keynote
Address: Bioterrorism
(Dr. Jack Killen, NIH)
National Institutes
of Health Assistant Director for Biodefense Research, Jack Killen, MD,
addressed Bioterrorism and Biodefense. Dr. Killen presented a history
of the use of bioterrorism and some of the causative agents and their
diseases. He discussed anthrax, smallpox, plague, botulism, and filovirus
as some potential bioterrorism agents and described the smallpox and anthrax
diseases as the major US concern. Dr. Killen then listed funding and priorities
for biodefense research.
