- Spring 2007 Dr Leticia Vega, Assistant Professor, Biology, won the award for most outstanding poster presentation at the 46th American Society for Cell Biology-Minority Affairs Symposium, San Diego, CA, December 9-13, 2006. The poster, Pif1p Levels Affect Telomere End Protection and Suggest a Role for Telomerase in End Protection, was co-authored by Lina Arencibia, a MARC trainee, Biology major. Mallory Jorif, another research MBRS RISE student in Dr. Vega's lab, also attended the meeting. The Minorities Affairs Committee, one of the standing committees of the American Society for Cell Biology, has as its goal to significantly increase the involvement of underrepresented minority scientists in all aspects of the Society. Drs Teresa Petrino, Gerhild Packert and Flona Redway were participants in the Department of Health and Human Services 2006 Research Conference on Research Integrity, Tampa, FL, December 1-3, 2006. The faculty learned of new trends in the responsible conduct of research. This is an important aspect of the research training offered through the MARC, SCORE and RISE programs.
