About Us

About UsIn 1999, Volunteer Coordinator Brother John Lydon, O.P., and Barry graduate student Melissa Marshall worked together to establish Barry's Habitat for Humanity chapter. Mr. Chris Bibbo, the Campus Chapter Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity International, officially recognized the Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter at Barry University in 2000.

By serving the community, recognizing the dignity of human beings, and increasing their potential to flourish, the Chapter affirms Barry's mission as a Catholic University in the Dominican tradition. Chapter members include students from Puerto Rico, India, Ecuador, Jamaica, and the United States; all sharing Habitat's Christian mission of building houses and restoring dreams.

In just a few years, the Habitat for Humanity Chapter at Barry University has achieved important milestones. We hold the record for having the largest number of volunteers working at a building site in a single day. We are also the first university in South Florida to co-sponsor a house.

Having achieved our goal of co-sponsoring a home, the Habitat chapter focuses on building this home and fundraising for the next.
