Dr. Donahue is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and teaches in
the Master and Doctoral Nurse Practitioner Programs. She is a South Florida native and earned her degrees
in nursing from Barry University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with a minor
in Computer Science in 1992; a Master of Science (MSN) in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program in
2007; and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2011. Dr. Donahue is currently board certified as a Family
Nurse Practitioner and holds national certification as an HIV Specialist from the American Academy
of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM). She has practiced as a primary provider and HIV Specialist at several clinics
and hospitals in Dade and Broward counties. She currently practices at Care Resource, providing primary
care services to both HIV+ and HIV- individuals with a focus on the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender
(LGBT) community. Dr. Donahue also has an extensive background in Pediatric Intensive Care Nursing
at University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Donahue is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, American Academy of HIV Medicine, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Donahue’s doctoral capstone project entitled “Hepatitis C Screening and Testing Practices among Primary Care Nurse Practitioners: A National Survey” was supported by a grant from STTI and was honored with the doctoral research award from Barry University. Dr. Donahue has a particular interest in the health care needs of individuals living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C infection as well as the unique healthcare needs of transgendered individuals.
