- Proof of adequate private health insurance coverage within South Florida.
All students residing in campus housing and all international students attending Barry University on an F-1 or J-1 visa are required to provide proof of adequate health insurance. Failure to comply with the University policy may negatively affect the student's U.S. visa status and/or the arrangements for university provided housing. Proof of insurance and a completed insurance waiver must be received in Student Health Center (SHC) upon entering the University and, on an annual basis thereafter prior to the first 14 days of the semester or, the fee for the Barry sponsored student insurance plan may be assessed to the student's account. Please go to SRStudentCenter<http://www.srstudentcenter.com/> to access the waiver. If a student's insurance fee has been assessed to a student's account due to lack of compliance with the university policy, such fees are irrevocable and will not be credited under any circumstance. Please go to Student insurance link for a complete explanation of adequate insurance. http://www.barry.edu/healthservices/studentInsurance/Default.htm
Beginning 2009 the Student Health Center, in collaboration with Residential Life, has instituted a $90 bi-annual (fall, spring) Student Health Center Supplemental Plan that will provide onsite primary care for all resident students. This plan covers 100% of all ill visits in the Student health Center including prescriptive medication prescribed by the SHC. It also provides coverage for required vaccinations, and flu vaccinations. This plan is not designed to replace your primary insurance plan. All students residing in university provided housing are required to have a health insurance plan that covers primary care at offsite providers.
The fee for this supplemental plan will be added to your student account; however, we respect your right to seek healthcare off campus. Therefore, you will be given the opportunity to waive out of the supplemental plan. The supplemental waiver is located at www.barry.edu/healthservices/studentinsurance/default.htm. All waivers must include all required data to be considered valid and returned to the Student Health Center by the waiver deadline for credit to be issued.
The Student Health Center will provide services to all registered students regardless of insurance status. However, the Student Health Center is not an authorized provider for any insurance other than the plans offered through the University. Therefore the Student Health Center is unable to process any third party claims.
