How to Apply

To apply to the HEP program you must do the following:

1.     You must meet with the HEP Recruiter/Counselor. Please call to make an appointment at (305) 242-7103 or email Michael Hill at mhill@mail.barry.edu.

2.     You must take the Test of Basic Education (TABE)* or the SABE (the Spanish version of the TABE) in order to determine if you qualify for GED classes.

If you do qualify for GED classes:

1.     You must complete HEP application.

2.     You must provide documentation that confirms your eligibility. You can provide HEP with any of the following:

  • Pay stubs from employment
  • W-2 forms or tax forms
  • Letter from employer verifying employment.
  • Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • Letter from another HEP program

If you do not qualify for the GED classes:

You will be referred to Adult Basic Education Classes (ABE). ABE classes are designed to strengthen your academic skills. Once this occurs you can retake the TABE examination.

* The TABE exam test individuals on their knowledge of reading comprehension, language and math.
