ORLANDO, Fla. -- Barry University School of Law was ranked No. 8 in the nation for diversity in U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 Best Graduate Schools for Law survey, released March 10.
Barry Law was the highest-ranking Florida law school in the magazine’s 2016 Law School Diversity Index. and the only Florida law school to make the Top 10.
The index was created to identify law schools “where students are most likely to encounter classmates from a different racial or ethnic group,” U.S. News says.
In its survey, U.S. News assigned a Diversity Index to ABA-accredited law schools, with 1.0 being the highest. Barry Law received a Diversity Index of 0.63. The highest-ranked law school on the list. University Of Hawaii-Manoa, received a Diversity Index of 0.72.
“Our law school has grown in so many ways since its founding, but I am personally most proud of the incredible diversity we have achieved in our student body,” says Leticia M. Diaz, Dean of Barry Law. “An educational environment that is rich is both ethnic diversity and a diversity of ideas helps to create future attorneys who have a genuine appreciation for social justice and for equal treatment of people from all backgrounds.”
The U.S. News ranking is the second national distinction Barry Law has received in 2015. In January, prelaw Magazine gave Barry Law an A+ diversity rating and ranked the school ninth in the nation for student and faculty diversity.
