Life at Barry
With its mix of Spanish-style architecture and abundance of tropical trees and plants, Barry’s Miami Shores campus gives you a quiet space apart from the fast pace of city life. When class and studies are done, you’ll be happy to find a wide choice of activities on campus and in the South Florida Metropolitan area.
South Florida Location
Our main campus location puts you about 20 minutes away from the urban life of Miami or Fort Lauderdale, with all the opportunities those cities present for cultural exchange, outdoor recreation, networking, and hands-on field practice. Our West Palm Beach site is located minutes from downtown, and close to Fort Lauderdale, giving you a similar breadth of opportunities.
South Florida and the Barry community will engage you with people from various cultures and with different perspectives. Barry students are drawn from 49 states and 80 countries. In fact, for seven years in a row, U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges Edition has ranked Barry as having the highest campus diversity among all schools of our size in the South.
You will have access to a wide range of activities and support, with more than 75 student organizations, including a Social Work Student Organization. The main campus has a pool, outdoor racquetball and tennis courts, and strength and conditioning room. If you are interested in athletics, you will find Barry’s teams among the best, with five NCAA Division II Championships as well as 24 Sunshine State Conference Championships.
The Monsignor William Barry Library’s research librarians are available to assist you in searching the library’s more than 700,000 holdings or accessing on-line networks. The computer lab is well-equipped and staffed with knowledgeable personnel who can answer your questions. The library and the computer lab schedules are set to meet student needs. There also is a Student Health Services Center, an Office of Disability Services, and a Career and Counseling Center on the main campus with staff available to assist you.
Whether you are a commuter or a resident student, you can take advantage of Barry’s meal plans which give you the option of eating in the dining hall or the BucStop. You can pick up a colada and sandwich at the Q or Starbucks. Cash is accepted in all eateries.
