José-David Padilla, OP, STL

Visiting Assistant Professor of Theology


Rev. José-David Padilla was born and raised in the city of Medellin, Colombia, where he received his BA in Philosophy from the Bolivarian Pontifical University. Padilla received the MA and the MDiv from the Aquinas Institute of Theology. He was ordained as a Deacon in Switzerland in 2003 and as a Presbyter in Miami in 2004. He worked as a Parochial Vicar at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Miami. In 2004, he was assigned to New Orleans where he worked for two and a half years as a pastor at St. Thomas More Parish and as director of the Catholic Center at Tulane University.

In Rome he studied Hebrew and Greek at the Biblicum; he completed his Canonical License Degree (STL) in Sacred Scriptures at the Catholic Institute of Paris. During this time, he also had the opportunity to explore biblical geography and archeology at the École Biblique of Jerusalem. He moved to Salamanca, Spain, where he is currently completing his Doctorate in New Testament though the Pontifical School of Theology of Salamanca.

Padilla has focused his studies on the figure of Saint Paul and on Pauline Literature. He is interested in the historical, social and cultural milieu of the first fifty years of Christianity. As for Pauline Literature, his interest is in the New Rhetoric, specifically the socio-rhetoric approach to the undisputed letters.
