Three departments make up the School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences (HPLS): the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness.

The Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES) offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students seeking career opportunities in human performance, leisure, and sport-related areas. Undergraduate programs include Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Management, Sport Management-Diving Industry, and Sport Management-Golf Industry. Graduate programs include Movement Science (Athletic Training, Biomechanics, Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and the General Option), Sport Management, and a dual degree program with the School of Business leading to both the MBA and the MS in Sport Management. Barry also offers seamless bachelor's to master's programs in Sport Management, Exercise Science, and Athletic Training that will enable you to earn both your bachelor’s and master's degrees in five years. 

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics provides students with the opportunity to represent Barry University in amateur, collegiate sport competition against like institutions while pursuing the ultimate goal of completing a college degree. Buccaneer Athletics is only in its 22nd year, but Barry has already won six national championships - three in women's soccer and three in volleyball. In addition, Barry has crowned 143 All-Americans and 118 Academic All-Americans, and has sent numerous teams and individuals to post-season playoffs and national championship competitions in its history. Barry currently competes in 12 intercollegiate sports for men and women. Women's sports include basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, and tennis.

The mission of the The Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is to provide the University community with structured sports activities and leisure recreational opportunities to allow the development of lifetime patterns for healthful living. These programs and wellness activities are instrumental in the physical, emotional, and social development of students. Campus Recreation strives to encourage the promotion of the ideals of recreation and wellness by incorporating such values as sportsmanship, fair play, and camaraderie, while supporting an atmosphere which promotes equitable opportunity for all.
